Francesco Izzo

Francesco Izzo is a Full Professor of Strategic Management of Innovation at University of Naples 2, Department of Economics, where he is also teaches International Strategy. He is a member of the Management Ph. D. scientific board. He is a research fellow at IRISS-CNR.

He teaches executive programs and leads senior and top management seminars for many Italian companies. For a long time, he taught Strategic Management at the University of Naples Federico II and in several Master programs. He served as visiting professor at the Luiss University in Rome. He holds a degree in Strategy Management and a Ph.D. in Management from University Federico II in Naples.

Professor Izzo from 2002 to 2006 was Director of the Department of Management at the Faculty of Economics of University of Naples 2 and from 2006 to 2012 Director of the Master inIntellectual Property. He won the Donald Getz award for research in event management in 2014.

His research focuses on innovation strategy, regional development, academic spin-off, international strategy of SMEs. He is author of a large number of scholarly publications on these topics. His most recent works are devoted to studying innovation in creative industry.

Since 2010, he is head of evaluation committee of the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, a public research organization controlled by the Ministry of Education and Research. The Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn of Naples was established in 1872 by the German scientist Anton Dohrn and is among the top research institutions in the world within the fields of marine biology and ecology. Since 2013, he is a member of Patent Committee at CNR – Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche.

He served as a consultant to Ministry of Innovation, collaborating at programs about regional innovation systems, academic spin-off and venture capital, as well as to Sviluppo Italia, an Italian government’s Development Agency, in charge of scientific coordination for research and executive projects about foreign investment, technological districts, entrepreneurship. From 2007 up to 2011 he coordinated the strategic plan for the development of cultural tourism in Bulgaria (EU project in cooperation with Italian government). At the present, he collaborates as columnist with Il Sole 24 Ore, the Italian major financial newspaper, commenting upon issues as regional development, innovation strategy, cooperation between academy and industry, technology and creative clusters.
